You have problems with my Freecom DVD-ROM?

I bought a DVD RW External Freecom Classic on my desk in June 2005 and have never had any problems with it. I used several times to burn backups of my hard drive and Vista always worked. I used Verbatim DVD + R for that. However, I bought ASDA own DVD + R does not work and TDK DVD + R does not work well (you can hit Asfa but surely it is feared TDK DVD). You do not know what to do now. Is it possible that either: 1) Time to buy a new recording device DVD-ROM? 2) Perhaps due to the fact that Verbatim 8x DVD are speed while Asda and TDK discs are x16? 3) Anything else? Please help. I pull my hair.
