How to Use an External WD Hard Drive on My PS3?
My son has a 500gb WD hard drive passport. How can he reformat it to fat32. It is currently NTFS
You need to format the driver from a command prompt.
On Windows XP: Go to the start menu, select run then type cmd into the pop up dialogue box. Press OK a black DOS box Window will now appear with a C:> prompt.
On Windows 7 and Vista . Go to start menu, all programs, accesories, move the mouse over the command prompt option so that it is highlighed, hold down shift and right click so a menu pops up. Select run as administrator. You may then see a popup dialogue asking you if you want to contine, accept this you should now see a black Window with the title Administrator Command Prompt. It should have a white C:> prompt. (It may say C:Usersxxxx> where xxx is your username (this is fine).

Now that you have launched the command prompt enter the command:
FORMAT /FS:FAT32 X: and press return, where X is the drive letter assigned to the NTFS volume on the external drive by Windows. e.g. to format the F drive type FORMAT /FS: FAT32 F:
