I do 'm not a computer person, so I hope to explain what I'm looking for. I load my QuickBooks software and files on a device (Like a portable hard drive) that can drive to work and use. No need to have the same software on another computer. I have QuickBooks to work, but it is a different version and I do not want my information on my work computer. I bought a Seagate Free Agent Pro 7200 RPM hard drive 500 GB, but I understand that it will not work. I must have the same software on another computer I'm using. I would be able to use an external hard drive loaded with software on other computers, and not have to use the software on other computers. Just use the other computer as a way to view and enter data that goes directly to the portable device. I hope I am not asking the impossible.
Unfortunately, some of you are asking the impossible. When you install QuickBooks files necessary to write the Windows registry, you must run itself. So, when installed on the Seagate, which only works on the computer that has installed despite that you install all the files outer primaries, you still need the registry files from the hard drive that hosts the operating system. So what you may think, although if I can install the OS on the Seagate too.
