The computer does not recognize my external hard drive?

Maxtor 500GB external hard drive plug and play works very well on my old PC but now It is recognized new laptop. The same unit is illuminated by green light flashes quickly, but otherwise nothing happens. Any help much appreciated.

Try plugging it into another USB port. Does it do something like trying to install a driver? Or does not recognize it at all? Check if it is recognition in devices and printers. What operating system do you use Windows 7?
