Grub Error 21 Dell laptop?

I installed Debian Linux on an external hard drive connected to my laptop via USB. When you restart without the HD connected, grub gives me an error 21. I want my MBR and to delete the partition on the disk. I found the net for advice Use a Windows boot disk to fdisk and then run / mbr or fixmbr do, but my Dell laptop (an Inspiron 1505) does not come with a restore disk. How do I access the console to restart? This model of laptop has a floppy drive, and Dell does not provide Recovery CD with it.
