Removing external hard drive from Vista (x64)?

Every time I try to safely remove my external Seagate FreeAgent I get an error message that is in use. I have a mac too and I was wondering if there is a third party software "external force is more ". Unlocker does not work with Vista x64. Does anyone know of any software that forces the unit to close all applications open? I tried what you said to Adam, but indicates that the system uses I can not stop it. I prefer not having to close my computer just remove my HD at any time. Suggestions?
