No more products found for: how to access external hard drive remotely How do I configure a hard drive for remote backups (Windows XP)?
I go to school 200 miles from home and you want a copy of High Definition security at home, I can remotely access the school. I run XP and am trying to avoid having a computer at home and access to HD. If a team is nessesary, how to configure it to register. I'll buy an external that can be attached via the USB port and connected to home network via Ethernet / CAT 5 cable
The difficulty will be a security problem. The network file format used for Windows network shares is notoriously dangerous and simply connect the network drive with a broadband modem is a recipe for disaster. Your best bet would be to leave a computer running at home and then set it on an FTP server or SFTP somehow and transfer files that way. Otherwise he would have to look to creating a certain type of VPN. Post you're in school, I recommend that relies on TCP / IP as OpenVPN, but that adds another level of configuration and complexity.
