I select an external hard drive to be used as a Dish Network DVR. is 120 GB. machine in a regular DVR, 80 GB is supposed to save 80 hours of television, or 120 GB are supposed to register more than 100 hours. when I plugged mine says I can only record 44 hours of standard TV or 11 hours in HD. Why? And there's nothing I can do saving more? It seems strange …. PV-because a lot of details! Damn I just bought this thing for $ 60. I could have got a 500GB under $ 100?? ARGHH
HDTV is transmitted at a speed of 19.4 megabits per second (Mbps). If you convert bits to bytes, equivalent to 2.425 megabytes per second (Mbps). The hard drive is 120 GB, which is equivalent to 120,000 MB. Keep this in mind: 120.000 MB. With a rate of 2.425 Mbit / s, one minute high definition television consumes 145.5 MB and a one-hour television consumer HD 8730 MB. 11 hours of HDTV consumes 96,030 MB or 96 GB. 14 hours high definition television is equal to 122 GB 220 MB or 122, which is more than the unit can store. If you can only get 11 hours of HDTV on your 120 GB hard drive, then some of the unit and must be something in it. Some of the hard drive space is probably also used for maintenance, so that video files are organized properly. Video consumes a lot of data space, including high definition video. HD video 19.4 Mbit / s and is highly compressed and can not push up much more serious, without loss of quality. I do not know where you got these figures, but they sound very optimistic to me. Hard drives are cheap and you can buy a 500GB external hard drive $ 100 or more. This will give us the capacity of about 56 hours of HDTV, this is what I suggest. Edit: Not only selling 500 GB drives for $ 100 or less, Costco has a CT (1000 GB) LaCie External Hard Drive $ 120 after rebate. Good luck!
