Hello everyone, I have a 4yo Western Digital Hard external hard drive. Leave work 2 years ago and I have not done much with it. Unfortunately, it has several vids like Wheeling (which was taken from YouTube) and I did not I on my desk top, and I was wondering if anyone had expereience with that. The unit size is 60 GB I think. Anyway the lights when I connect via USB, but I heard a soft crunch time to time, which leads me to believe that the needle skips on the disc. The costs I see are like $ 350. I won, t try to get at this price. None can afford.
LOL, is a hard disk, not a hub. No needles, no contact read / write heads and the disc occurs in a health unit. In contrast, reading / Write head floats on a thin cushion of air over the surface of the tray into the unit and is close enough to read the magnetic pulses. As you probably know, the sounds are not muffled a good thing. (I think it is above all a predictable engine makes noise (or turn the engine or motor dish that moves the read / write head) Of course, knowing the source of the crash will not help much. First, Windows (or OS X, Linux or any other operating system you are using are) able to see the hard drive when connected via USB? If so, try copying the desired files quickly. (Do not leave the unit until / unless you're ready to save your data) If you can not not, data recovery can be very expensive. ($ 350 for a unit sounds incredibly cheap. Are you sure the price?) Ago something to try might * help you keep your data. It is known as the case "freezer." Essentially, you want to Wrap your hard drive in a zip bag of quality (moisture penetrates the will aggravate the situation) and throw it in the freezer for a day or two. He goes out, cross your fingers and connected and we hope that it works long enough to save the data. If information was really important, I would recommend professional recovery instead of the freezer trick, but it seems that this is not the case. It is certainly worth trying. Also, for you to know that I am not a joke, is the first article on the topic of Google: http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/2006/01/freeze-your-hard-drive-to-back "If you do not like this article data.html There are over 24,000 http://www.google.com/search?q=freezer+trick+hard+drive&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org. mozilla: en-US: official & client = firefox-a
