No more products found for: external drive case usb driver How do I re-install Windows XP Tablet Edition on my Toshiba M200 Portege Tablet PC?
Hi everyone, My laptop has decided to run quite slowly (I’ve installed far too much rubbish on it over the 4 years I’ve had it) and I would like to re-install Windows on it.
The only problem is, it’s a Tablet PC so I have no CD drive. I have a Recovery Disc that came with the Laptop and I also have an external USB case with a DVD Writer wired into it – would this work? Would the Recovery Disc also include all the Drivers as well as the Operating System?
If so, how would you suggest going about this?
Many thanks,
Matthew.
The recovery disks will restore the TabletPC back to its original setup just like you bought it. It has all the original drivers required for the machine. If you have upgraded any drivers while you’ve owned it you’ll have to do so again after using the recovery disks. The same goes with all the Microsoft security updates, service packs, etc.
Most TabletPC’s have no internal optical drives and are set up to do just like you’re thinking for restoring the device. Yes, you should be able to use the external USB optical device (CD/DVD ROM) to run the restore.
If it doesn’t work right off the start you may have to go into the BIOS to tell it to look for the external drive first, but it’s most likely set up that way from the start.
