What is the biggest hard drive that can be recognized by Windows 2000? Also, can manage external SATAII?
I have a Windows 2000 machine (SP4). I can not buy a new computer, but I felt that you want to buy parts to build one myself. Meanwhile, I want to buy an external hard drive USB 2.0 terabytes. I have a USB 2.0 card. How this unit will be recognized by Windows 2000? If part of the disk is not recognized when they finally get the new team, there will be other questions? Another question: If it is an external drive connected to your computer via USB 2.0, could be a SATAII? I think this is the new type of HD, it is a better choice for any new computer. Thank you very much for the advice.
There is no software meets certain limitations in Windows 2000 and I've never heard of the carrying capacity NTFS partition. The only limit is the ability without addressing 48bitLBA, who could not handle more than 137 GB, but it was several years ago, and every mother has to deal with this yet. As for USB 2.0 that can manage multiple terabytes without problems, I'm not even sure that even there is a limit in the processing sectors USB 2.0 (perhaps infinite). Unit in the case could be USB-SATA / II, and is probably a high probability, IDE hard disks that are very rare in the building. But there would not significant difference in speed, because USB 2.0 has a speed limit itself, which can not be paused. SATA directly connected to your system with a cable SATA should be faster than USB 2.0. And yes, SATA / II are newer and faster than the older PATA technology.
