How do I remotely access my hard drive?

I have a hard drive connected to an Airport Extreme Base Station and I was wondering if you can access my hard drive remotely over the Internet. The AEBS is connected to a router Actiontec MI424-WR and is in bridge mode. my portable hard drive in the process to complete and I put a lot of my stuff on external hard drive, but I find that I have dedicated storage for files you need even when I'm on the road, so I expected there would be no way to access my hard drive at home via the Internet.
